Inside: Part 3…

03/29/2010

I have the best bed in the world. No, really.  You may think you do, but it is only because you haven’t tried mine.  My bed is my favorite spot in the house.  ( Apparently it is my dogs, too.  Wonder why?)

My bedroom is really two places in one.  It is where I sleep, but it is also my studio.  I would say I spend about 50% of my day in my bedroom/studio. ( Im in it right now!)  All my work and creative endeavors take place here.  I have a giant desk made of butcher block that I snagged at a garage sale for 30 bucks. ( One of my greatest finds.  I almost felt bad taking it from the poor woman for so cheap…almost.  It will forever be my favorite piece of furniture.)  On my desk are endless objects during the day.  My computer, my camera, pens, pencils, piles of different types of papers, coffee, tea, water, sketchbooks of various sizes,  pocket change.  It an organized mess if that makes sense.

Above my desk and around my room are my art walls.  Everywhere I have lived has had an art wall. Its a wall of inspiration and memories.  Some of it is my art, some others. My friends will often draw images just to hang them up. ( Those are my favorite.)  There are letters, photographs, coasters, tickets, a giant styrofoam polar bear head. ( Dad got it for me when I was ten.  Its a must on the wall.)  Each piece has some memory tied to it.    Its always growing, and always changing.   Sometimes when my ceiling fan is on too high the papers will rattle on the wall.  Its a good sound.

My bedroom is small, but it works.  The light is great in the morning and even better in the afternoon.  Music is always on, and the bed is never made.

Hope you all are enjoying this little project.  I am.

A New Favorite…

03/25/2010

Lately I have been on a taco kick ( for lunch at least).  They are quite easy to fix, there are a million combinations and you can make them in little  or no time.

Today I tried something new.  I wanted a quesadilla but I didn’t have any of the normal cheese you would include.  I did though have a ball of fresh mozzarella.  I took onions, garlic, some strips of sirloin, tons of cumin and this adobe spice I have, s&p and threw it all in the pan.  Heated through the tortillas and topped everything with lime juice, an insane amount of cilantro ( you can never have to much)  and crumbled the fresh mozzarella on top.   The fresh mozzarella turned out to be fantastic inside.    Its going down as a new favorite twist on tacos.  Try it.

Hoping to get back outside soon.  I have been super busy and it seems I only have time to photograph what I eat.  Stay tuned…

Lemons…

03/23/2010

Im not quite sure what I would do without lemons, I buy them by the bag full. They are a staple in my diet and I always have them in a bowl somewhere in the house. ( usually not in the kitchen as they are quite nice to look at.)

Lately I have been using them in and on everything. No really, everything. A recent trip to the doctor put some things into perspective and I need to cut back on my sodium and caffeine. ( Two of my absolute favorite things! What will I do!?) I am a very healthy guy. I eat great, I’m not over weight, I drink plenty of water.  I just have high blood pressure and always have. They dont know why, they dont know how, but they say I gotta get it down. So in my efforts to consume less sodium I have been squeezing a little lemon juice over what ever I am eating in place of table salt. Honestly, it works great, sometimes better than salt itself. Give it shot, you’ll be surprised.

A solution for less caffeine is another story… I love me some coffee in the morning. Maybe I’ll cut back to just one cup…maybe.

In other news, the weather was awesome this past weekend. You know the weather that literally drags you outside. The kind that makes you forget you own a TV or computer. We spent all day out on the back deck, had friends over, ate a HUGE meal cooked almost entirely on the grill, and then sat with drinks until late in the evening. If only everyday was like that.

Have a good one…

Inside: Part 2…

03/17/2010

My kitchen is where I spend a lot of time. Cooking is very much a part of my daily routine.  I always find time to cook.

My kitchen is not the largest, but it works.  I used to hate it. It was small, cramped, I had no counter space. ( I still dont)  It all made cooking a challenge.  But after a while everything grew to find its place and I learned to adapt.

The mornings are the best.  The kitchen faces east and everything is primarily white.  Its very bright, blinding sometimes.

Constants in my kitchen include:

My dog:  Always in the way.  Always waiting for a crumb.

Butter: Room temperature is a must.

Coffee:  Always.

Pantry:  I try to keep it stocked.  Never know what you will want to cook.

Spices:  I have far too many.  Its a little crazy.

Happy St. Patricks Day.

See the first part of this little project here.

Lunch: Gyros

03/16/2010

Gyros. They are one of my favorite things to eat for lunch, dinner, heck any time.  I have mentioned before that I love the cucumber yogurt sauce ( I could eat it on almost anything) and I think thats why I love gyros so much.

Yet, I also love dill, tomatoes, and pitas.  Then there is the steak ( or lamb), cooked up with garlic, cumin, I add lime juice, some salt and pepper. All good.

Some of my favorite foods all wrapped up.  So easy, too.

Serve with fries and a drink and lunch is complete.

( The best gyros are the ones you get in Paris.  They shave the meat right into the pita, add all the toppings and then stuff french fries right inside. Its like the best thing ever.)

Have a good one.

Saturday.

03/13/2010

I have been feeling a little uninspired lately and havent picked up my camera much. (too many project going on, maybe)   So I was going through a bunch of photos I had taken over the past couple weeks.  I saw all of these walls from various places and thought they all looked quite nice next to each other.    Maybe its all the colors, the grain, the simplicity, I dont know, but I like them better together.

Enjoy the weekend.

Recently…

03/10/2010

…I have been obsessed with pancakes…chocolate chip  pancakes to be exact.  I have been eating them every morning.  They are officially my go-to-favorite-breakfast-food-ever.

—-

-I cook them in a little butter.  ( they get crispier that way)

-Often times Ill make extra and I put them in the fridge.  They are just as good cold.

-I never use syrup.  ( I don’t like the maple flavor with the chocolate)

-I add a pat of butter and sprinkle them with powdered sugar.

-Add a cup of coffee and breakfast is served.

Have a great rest of the week.

Greens…

03/09/2010

It has been so nice these past couple days.  I was surprised when I walked out to my car.  My door wasn’t frozen shut, and I didnt have to blast the heat.  Nice huh?

I’ve been seeing green everywhere.  Im very  ready for spring and summer.

Bread Pudding…

03/05/2010

So I dont have much to share.  Its been one of those weeks.  My cold came back worse than before.  ( like woah bad)  my computer broke, and honestly I havent picked up my camera since last weekend.

But I did make a great chocolate bread pudding.  It was seriously good.  I had been having a craving for some, so I took all my old bread and whipped some up.  Its quite easy actually.

I am hoping to pick up the camera this coming weekend.  Im going on a few small trips and want to take lots of pictures.

Have a great weekend.

B&W Part 2…

03/02/2010

Here are a few more shots from some B&W rolls I shot a few weekends back.  They are nothing too special, but I think they all look good together.  This roll doesn’t look as expired as the previous one.  I’m really liking difference in the snowy window image posted here, and the one I posted before

I had a pretty nice weekend. Food and drinks, movie, friends, a concert, all good times.    The head cold is still hangin’ around, but Im feeling better.  Thanks to those of you who posted great remedies.

( My favorite was putting whiskey in my tea.  Very good)

See you all here tomorrow.

Friday.

02/26/2010

Feeling a bit under the weather.  Drinking lots of tea and consuming an abundance of vitamin C.

I have people coming this weekend.  Excited.  Lets hope I can shake this bug.

Have  great weekend.

Lunch Today…

02/25/2010

Making lunch from last nights dinner has to be my favorite type of lunch.  Its quick and often the food tastes even better the second time around.

I had a leftover chicken breast, so I had chicken salad with toasted almonds, apples, extra celery, and a dash of relish.

I then used last nights roasted yukon taters’ to make a cold potato salad.  I added some red wine vinegar, feta cheese, dash of dill and black pepper.  ( its a new favorite, seriously–try it.)

Have a good Thursday.

Inside: Part One…

02/24/2010

As I mentioned before, I have been working on a new project.  I wanted this project to feel a bit more personal. An exploration. I think Ill call this project …Inside.

I love seeing daily routines, lifestyles, things.  The way people live, their constants. I also love seeing what they live in, their space.

Interiors and food have to be my two favorite things to photograph.  You all see what I eat, a lot ( maybe too much?) So to switch gears a bit, I thought, why not show my interiors/lifestyle through a series of post. A journey through my house.

I find my photography style constantly changing, so I wanted this project to be a bit more abstract.  Very simple photos,  moments if you will, sometimes just of light or texture. I want to capture the details that I find most appealing. To show the space in a pure raw form.  To explore.

To start, I will share my bathroom.  A very small space, but it is one of the brightest spots in the house.  The light changes through this space constantly. I love it.

I hope you like them.

Also, since you are getting a peak into my world, go ahead and find out a bit more here.  Catherine, over at Parismages has posted an interview with me.  Check it out. ( Thank you, Catherine)

B&W around the house…

02/23/2010

So I finally got my B&W film back last night.  (one roll at least)

I have been wanting to shoot black and white for a while now. You notice the light in a picture so much more.

The film was expired. I found it under my desk and thought I’d give it shot.   I think they turned out ok.  The color seems way off, not to mention I have a cheap scanner.  But I like the texture with the almost sepia tones.

These are just are a few. I will share more in the coming week.

Have a great one.

The Weekend…

02/22/2010

( images dont go together, but they sum up my weekend well.)

Whew, what a weekend.  It was beyond nice. ( seriously, be jealous)  63 degrees and sunny.  I spent almost the whole weekend on the back deck.

Went out with some great people on friday for a birthday, ate some great mexican ( fajitas), made breakfast ( biscuits with honey butter) took riley on a walk, made pizza (on an asiago cheese baguette), and bought girl scout cookies ( 3 boxes!)

Awesomeness.  So nice for the middle of February, right?

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Thanks for the nice comments here and on flickr lately. They mean a lot.

Hoping to share my black and white tomorrow, if they ever call and say its ready. Stay tuned.

Friday…

02/19/2010

I thought these 2 photos here turned out pretty cool.  Its kinda like winter and spring mixed together.

I plan on hanging out this weekend. Reading, cleaning, interneting… napping.

It supposed to be nice out tomorrow ( about 60 degrees) so I am excited for that.

Have a great weekend.  Ill see you back here Monday/Tuesday to share some film.

Liking Lately…

02/18/2010

This week has been one of those weeks. You know when you barely have time to eat?  The work has finally slowed down and Im very ready for the weekend.

So I thought I would share the few photos I took lately.  Some food and things I am currently loving.

- I got these great fingerling potatoes for roasting and some awesome yukon golds for breakfast.  So good.

-I  finally got a plant for the house. Its leafless, succulent, and requires little or no maintenance.  Im not sure what it is, but its pretty awesome looking, no?

( you might think it is dead, but its not.  promise.)

-Chocolate chip pancakes with milk.  Need I say more?

Hope you all had a great week.

Have a good weekend.

Mountains…

02/12/2010

Well I made it to the mountains. However, an unexpected snow has fallen.  ( its still falling as I type)

Its nice, but its sorta putting a damper on the plans we had. ( i like this image though)

I also put a bunch of B&W film in my camera.  Excited to get them developed.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Ill be reading, watching the Olympics and seeing friends.

See ya next week.

Wednesday Glow…

02/10/2010

So I have this huge window in my shower.  Its great for light in the bathroom, but not so much for privacy.  So I’ve placed a small plastic curtain half way down.  It creates a great glow in the afternoon.

I like the light.  Thought you might too.

The week is half over and I am excited for the weekend.  Headed to the mountains.  Hoping to go on a photo hike and have a few drinks with friends.

Forgotten Favorite…

02/08/2010

You know those meals you had when you were young?  The food that was very simple, usually included cheese, and you dunked it? Well this weekend I had just that.  I always forget how much I love grilled cheese. Its even better along side a bowl of tomato soup.  Call me 7 years old, but it was super.

Crunchy sourdough bread around melted swiss and provolone ( sprinkled with a little bit of sea salt)

Canned tomato soup. I know, how lazy of me, but I doctored it up with  lots of cream, fresh cracked black pepper,  and sprinked with a bit of rosemary.

I am working on a themed project.  I hope to share it real soon, so be on the look out for that.  Otherwise, hope your week is off to a good start.
